A Strong Towns local conversation seeking to build a stronger Denton, one step at a time
Through principles of resilience, incrementalism, observation, continuous adaptation, and fiscal sustainability, a stronger Denton can be affordable, thrive with community trust, encourage wealth-building entrepreneurship, and be cherished by its residents for generations to come.
Cities everywhere are broke.
Denton is no different.
But there is hope.
In the post-WW2 boom, American cities were re-built with debt. Highways cut through neighborhoods, and infrastructure expansion transformed the American dream from 40 acres and a mule to a quarter acre of grass with a single-family home. Decades later our streets are failing, housing prices are unaffordable, and our tax burden is high.
Why?
We built more than we can maintain. As the true costs of our way of life become apparent, we must choose: adapt our neighborhoods to become sustainable, suffer higher tax burdens, or watch the communities we love crumble.
Join us as we seek to grow Denton into a sustainable bottom-up community.
